  • Top 6 Places to Appreciate Art Near Boca Raton, Florida
    • Calling all art lovers. Have you checked out the top galleries and museums near Boca?

Boca Raton is enjoying an art renaissance. While it has historically served as a home for many creative types, the area has recently received artists and auteurs determined to challenge the modern concepts of art. The result is works that push viewers to engage with the piece and the artist, classes that expand our understanding of an artist and their process, and programs that help refine new talent. To understand why Boca Raton is the place to be for art appreciation, let us guide you through some of the best museums and galleries nearby.

      Sponder Gallery
Best For: Modern and postwar works with an edge

Part of Sponder Gallery’s success is their contemporary approach to the intersection between art and business. Their relationships with St. Andrews Country Club along with the Boca Raton Resort & Yacht Club has helped put their artists and their works on display throughout the respective clubs, and into the shopping bags of many of the club’s patrons. Furthermore, Sponder Gallery works to maintain their credibility in eyes of both the art world and the public, through their Fine Art Dealers Association Membership status and through their constant interaction with the public. Their FADA Membership ensures that they offer a high level of integrity in selling their products, that they research them thoroughly, and that they offer a wide range of products. The pieces that they feature push the boundaries of art, utilize features from other disciplines, and create striking image in the mind’s eye. One of their prime examples is Kysa Johns works, which utilize the paths that atoms make as they travel, the decay trajectory of subatomic particles, and other elements from science.

      Vertu Fine Art
Best For: Pop art that catches your eye

Gallery owner Gary Santoro first became aware of pop art when he watched Keith Haring’s works evolve from subway graffiti to a pop culture phenomenon. Understanding pop art’s solid establishment in pop culture’s landscape, Santoro worked to create a gallery dedicated to not just the display and selling of such pieces, but also to the education of pop culture and its role in the art world.  Aside from their work in the gallery, they also tour the art show circuit. From Market Art + Design 2018 to Art on Paper at Manhattan’s Pier 36, the staff at Vertu are constantly working to display their current works, purchase new ones, and help buyers locate the perfect piece.

      Rosenbaum Contemporary
Best For: Postwar and Contemporary Pieces

In an effort to honor its architectural roots, many of the area’s buildings are designed and decorated in Mediterranean and coastal styles. The popularity of these art movements have dominated the landscape, leaving little room for modern and contemporary art and design to assert itself. Marvin and Howard Rosenbaum’s love for modern art worked to bring modern and postwar art to the shores of South Florida, and we’re all the better for it. Their tireless efforts in visiting showings, auctions, and museums for some of the best examples in this style pays off with an extensive list of featured artists and gallery showings that are second to none. The gallery’s recent exhibition and reception for “Dozen”, which displayed works from the Thomas Hartman Master Class of the Academy of Fine Arts, was one of the most discussed events in the recent history of the art world. Outside of showings and displays, the Rosenbaum Contemporary has established itself as a resource for art collectors and historians by offering services such as art consulting, art sourcing, and acquisition advice for free.

      Arts Garage
      Best For:
Finding new and alternative acts and pieces

If the Boca Raton arts scene has undergone a metamorphosis, the Arts Garage serves as the cocoon in which area creators grow. As a 501 (C) (B) nonprofit, Arts Garage is dedicated to both highlighting local artists and acts, while bringing some of the world’s greatest artists and performers to South Florida’s stages. They accomplish this by hosting these works and performances in their maker space, a physical garage in Delray Beach. One of Arts Garage’s most raved showings is the Grassroots Gallery, where works by upcoming artists are hosted, elevating them to the world stage. The upcoming “WANDERLUST” exhibit features photography by Mitchell Jacobson and Samuel Spear Jr., each talented street photographers in their own right. Jacobson’s unflinching and bold shots contrast brilliantly against Spear Jr.’s soft snapshots of daily life. Displayed in the same gallery, their photography complements each others’ effortlessly.

      Ann Norton Sculpture Garden
      Best For:
Those who like their art in a medium that they can get a feel for.

Built from the former residence of famous sculptor Ann Weaver Norton, the Ann Norton Sculpture Garden lets its guests appreciate both fine art and botany. There are more than 100 original works by Weaver in the garden, and some select pieces by sculptors renowned in their own right. When you’re not marveling at the drama and presence of Norton’s imposing, expansive designs, you’ll be agape at the rare species of tropical plants that fill the gardens, including palms and cycads. Your awe was planned -  the garden was planned to showcase the art within it, much like coming across ancient statues in an old forest.

      Boca Raton Museum of Art
      Best For:
A complete and enveloping art experience

Curators of this museum scour the world for artists and pieces that show off styles, mediums, viewpoints, and experiences unique to certain areas of the world, while also highlighting works that are local to the area. One such example of the museum’s work in displaying local works and viewpoints would be the Boca Raton Museum Artists Guild, which runs juried gallery exhibitions roughly every month to show off works crafted by members. Past winner Oksana Urban depicts life in South Florida with an airy sort of quality, using pastel colors to paint scenes of placid beach landscapes and the locals who inhabit them. Contrast this with the Photography collection in the museum’s permanent collection. In Bernice Abbot’s New York Stock Exchange, she captures the frenetic pace of daily life in New York with specific choices in composition and framing. The Boca Raton Museum of Art takes their patrons art literacy one step further with programs such as Boca Screening, which shows interviews and films related to items in the temporary collection, and docent tours, which shed light on an artist’s line of thinking. The museum is not content with hanging pictures on the wall and calling it a day-its staff dedicate themselves to offering access to works that have made an impact in the art world, while increasing the knowledge and art experience of everyone who passes through its doors.

Boca Raton is not just the center of South Florida’s art world, it’s where today’s art movements are made. Every day brings up the next artist to dominate the social scene, or the next theater production to take the world by storm, or discovery of a piece made by a revolutionary artist. The minute that you take your eyes off of Boca Raton is the minute that you’ll miss the next big thing. Much of it happens near St. Andrews Country Club, a work of art of itself.

  • Your Guide: Pros & Cons of Buying in a Country Club
    • Your Guide: Pros & Cons of Buying in a Country Club

If you could live anywhere, why should you choose to live in a country club? Some say that the preconceptions of life at a country club don’t measure up to the reality, while others don’t feel that they’re worth the investment. We’ve broken down the pros and cons for you. Let us know what you decide.

      PROS

      1.      Peace of Mind   Upon arriving home you’ll pass through a manned entry gate and drive through the clean and peaceful streets of your club. Life at a country club always feels calm, secure, and worry-free.

      2.      Unmatched Amenities   From state-of-the-art fitness and training centers to championship golf courses, clay tennis courts to spa services and on-site dining, the amenities inside a country club far outweigh amenities in any regular community.

      3.      Social Calendar   Country clubs usually have an entire department dedicated to crafting unique events each month for the club. There’s never a dull moment and every holiday will be celebrated with gusto.

      4.      Neighbors That Become Family   When you live in a club surrounded by like-minded families it’s just natural to bond and forge long-lasting friendships with your neighbors.

      5.      Healthy Lifestyle   With the full social calendar, there’s always plenty to do in a country club; for social engaged members there are tons of things to get involved with and different ways to support charitable causes. It’s a place for mind, body and spirit to thrive.

      CONS

      1.      Monthly HOA   It’s par for the course at the best country clubs and it means that the club is impeccably maintained and common areas are always pristine.

      2.      Board Governed   When you live in a country club membership is in control and guides the club management and staff to provide just the right amount of amenities and services.

      3.      Rules and Guidelines   Good rules make good neighbors. In a country club, members have the ability to set the rules together and then everyone lives by them.

At St. Andrews Country Club we feel the pros outweigh the cons. Who wouldn’t be excited at the thought of advanced security systems, amenities of all kinds, and a receptive professional management team? If you’re still not convinced, consider the lifestyle at St. Andrews Country Club in Boca Raton. • Golf, Dining and Fitness Reciprocal Club Offerings

    • St. Andrews members can take advantage of an extensive reciprocal program until season begins. Here are a few details on just what experiences await.

When you have all the options in the world, why limit yourself to just one? Enter the reciprocal program, which is designed to grant members of St. Andrews Country Club access to the array of golf courses and restaurants that a select set of clubs in the area offer. Accessing them is incredibly easy: all that you need is to call the front desk and ask for a reservation to the restaurant or golf course of your choice. After that, the best of the country club circuit in Palm Beach County is yours to enjoy.

We can proudly say that we align our reciprocal programs with clubs that possess golf courses that meet St. Andrews’ standards. Broken Sound Club has two courses-the New Course and the Old Course-that offer golfers a chance to play on courses styled after ones found around the country. Whether you prefer the modern style of the New Course or the traditional one of the Old Course, you’ll also enjoy the full range of amenities offered to golfers here. Equip yourself at the golf shop, practice with teaching pros, and work on your swing at the driving range and practice area. Old Palm Golf Club has one course, designed by Raymond Floyd, Honorary Chairman and Masters Champion. The single course has 19 holes designed around the traditions of historical courses. It’s the perfect place to tee up with a few friends, or to enjoy the natural beauty of the area while working on your own swing. A golf studio and personal instruction let you improve your game.

Recent trends in food encourage gourmands and diners to try as many different restaurants as possible, to find the best dishes that they can find. Members should make it a personal goal to sample everything on the restaurant reciprocal list-with so many offerings, it’s almost a crime to not try them all. If you’re looking for diversity within your dishes, try Palm Beach Yacht Club. The dining room serves brunch, lunch, dinner, and desserts, and features a wine list offering the best reds, whites, and bubblies known. Brew fans should note that Fridays and Saturdays let diners have a free first round with brand cocktails, house wines, and beer. At Woodfield Country Club, four different restaurants serve everything that you could think of, in atmospheres that range from casual to clubhouse casual. You could feel at home in the variety of settings, but you’ll always come home to St. Andrews.

No matter what you experience, you’ll find that it’s always nice to come home to St. Andrews Country Club. Be it the city’s storied history, wonderful weather, or endless list of activities, Boca Raton offers something for residents and guests alike.

      Weather
Many visitors and future residents are drawn to Boca Raton’s great weather. With
an average amount of 231 sunny days per year, the residents of Boca Raton slip on swimsuits and flip flops instead of heavy winter coats and snow shoes. Moving to Boca is just like escaping the snow! Floridians also make the time to catch the sunset when they can. No need to worry about finding a great spot, members of St. Andrews Country Club can watch the sunset right from their backyard - just look west!

      Culture
With an endless well of inspiration, Boca Raton draws in artists of all kinds with its warm climate, authentic history, and artistic freedoms. In turn, these artists have helped establish Boca as a cultural centerpiece of Florida, with events such as the Festival of the Arts. The Festival of the Arts Boca runs for two weeks early in the year and offers cultural education to young and young-at-heart alike, alongside presenting live performances and author talks. For painting and sculpture, many residents of Boca Raton turn to the Boca Raton Museum of Arts, which curates a healthy collection of artists from around the world and around the corner. Art fans attend the Gallery Talk, held twice a month, where gallery specialists lead a guided tour around a certain collection of the museum and grant insight to the attending guests.

      Shopping
Boca Raton’s upscale lifestyle brings in definitive shopping and unique products that can’t be found anywhere else. Mizner Park, an expansive outdoor market street, is where local boutiques such as Marcella’s stand in direct proximity to high-end brands such as Coach. Its location to Mizner Park Amphitheatre means that after a day of shopping, guests will often step outside to enjoy an impromptu music concert or festival performing outside the shopping complex. The Town Center at Boca Raton has offered high-end convenience and style together for over forty-eight years with brands such as Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue located in the same area.

      Restaurants

But nothing in Boca Raton can compare to the personalized dining experience offered within St. Andrews Country Club. The Grille at Lakeside is a member favorite and famous for new American fare such as steak and seafood served alongside a breathtaking lake view.
      Outdoor Activities

    • Discover What Makes the Golf Program at St. Andrews Country Club A One-of-A-Kind Experience You Won't Find Anywhere Else

The magic of St. Andrews is the synergy between its outstanding facilities, peerless professional staff, and a discerning membership that appreciates an active lifestyle. The fundamentals of golf never change, but the way you experience the game certainly does. For members of St. Andrews Country Club in Boca Raton, the ultimate fulfillment is found on the golf course.

The Club has two signature designed courses; the Olde Course which was completely renovated in 2016 and is now the Fazio II Course, designed by Tommy Fazio II and the Arnold Palmer Signature ® Design Course. Both 18-hole Championship courses are distinctively challenging as each designer intended. The courses are complemented with verdant fairways, impeccable greens, rolling berms and water hazards and over 70-acres of side-lakes, waterways and wooded areas.

A unique feature at St. Andrews is that no tee times are required so members can tee off at sunrise or the back nine at dusk. The club also features a deep-piled putting green, driving range and a brand new chipping area.

St. Andrews Country Club offers a variety of amenities that allow you to make the best of your golfing experience including a state-of-the-art Golf Performance Center featuring an indoor hitting bay, V1 Digital Coaching System and FlightScope Launch Monitor® technologies, and a Callaway Golf®-branded club fitting area. These special amenities allow you to visualize firsthand what your golf instructor sees, aid you in adjusting your swing accordingly and enhance your skills in a shorter timeframe.

Members also enjoy luxurious locker rooms, club and shoe cleaning service, pro shop and full schedule of clinics and special events.

By partnering with Callaway and bringing in V1 and FlightScope technologies, St. Andrews Country Club is the only private club in South Palm Beach County to offer all of these unique services, including instruction in a comprehensive GPC facility. The professional golf instruction staff offers lessons in the GPC, driving range, putting or chipping practice areas or on either of the two 18-hole championship courses.

Paul Clivio, Director of Golf and recent recipient of the 2017 Professional of the Year Award from Callaway Golf Company, and the Head Golf Pro and PGA certified staff oversee a full schedule of events, clinics and classes for golfers at all levels of any age.

We recently caught up with Mr. Clivio and had a quick convo regarding his recent accomplishment and this is what he had to say.

Q: Your career path to become director of golf was unorthodox. After establishing a successful livelihood in the plastics business, you walked away. Tell us about that career choice.

A: I left a good paying job to make $8.50 an hour, I wanted to work at St. Andrews Country Club that bad! One of the things that makes St Andrews so great is the mutual respect between members and management. We’re all part of the same team to make the club the best it can be every day. St. Andrews has an incredible reputation when it comes to employee loyalty. Most employees and staff have been with the club for their entire career. People don’t want to leave because we make it such a great place to work.

Now 23 years later I’m not only the director of golf but about to become president of the SE Florida chapter of the PGA.

Q: You were recently awarded the 2017 Professional of the Year Award from Callaway Golf Company. How do you feel about such a prestigious honor?

A: I accredit my success to the values my parents instilled in me, especially regarding customer service. My mother is a strong, very customer oriented person who taught me about working with people, listening to what they are saying and really understanding their needs. It’s not about being a great golfer, but more about becoming a better person every day.

Another thing I accredit is the high standard of Callaway products, and of the club itself. The Golf Performance Center helps golfers find the perfect fit by recording their swings on camera and then play them back to pinpoint issues.
The GPC also sells Callaway products. “The best golf company with the best country club, you can’t lose!”

St. Andrews Country Club, a resident-only Private Golf & Country Club, is located in upscale Boca Raton, Florida near world-class shops, superb dining, cultural attractions and gorgeous area beaches.

  • What gives Boca Raton, Florida its reputation as a wonderful place to live work & play?

    • It’s hard to isolate one thing that makes Boca Raton special.  Boca Raton has it all; miles of pristine beaches, endless stretches of parks and bike paths, beautiful golf courses, tennis courts and water parks, class A-schools, culinary triumphs, welcoming neighborhoods and enviable real estate for every taste and budget. Add in national franchises, wine and food events and year-round climate made for outdoor diversions, and you have something to do every weekend.

      Shopping & Dining
Boca Raton is also a shopper’s paradise. It’s home to some of the best stores in the world. Whether your style is chic and trendy, relaxed BoHo or sophisticated preppy, Boca has couture fashion for every price range and taste. Boca’s vast culinary landscape is also first class, with numerous options ranging from the best dining in South Florida to the hottest new chefs waiting to be discovered. Great Italian and lauded steakhouses share corners with family-friendly spots and time-honored bars, among others.

      Beautiful Beaches
The 70-mile stretch of coastline from Palm Beach through Broward County attracts visitors from around the world. Water temperatures are almost always in the 70s and 80s, so swimming in December and January is a favorite pastime for vacationers. Each mile of beach has its own characteristics, from dune-lined stretches of pure serenity to those with bustling beachside shops and restaurants.   There are reefs up and down our coastline and one in particular is distinguished by Red Reef Park, an underwater reef teeming with sea life in waters only 8 feet deep. Offshore, along the coast there are roughly 70 sites for divers and 25 of these are shipwrecks.   For the sport fishermen, there are several charters for both drift boats and deep-sea fishing but if waterskiing is more your speed, you can slip on skis or jump on a wakeboard at Ski Rixen. Have grandkids? Then enjoy a day of fun at Coconut Cove Waterpark, and slide down one of its two four-story water slides, exercise in the lap pool or explore its 897-foot-wide river ride.

The Arts Are Thriving in Boca Raton

From festivals and galleries to theatre and musical performances, Boca Raton is a chockablock with arts entertainment. Whether you’re a Broadway buff or a music enthusiast, Boca has something for everyone.  The Mizner Amphitheater is at the heart of Boca’s cultural scene. The Boca Museum of Art, also in Mizner Park is another community favorite. The Boca Ballet Theatre, which offers classical training and performances; the Symphonia, which includes domestic and internationally acclaimed conductors and musicians; and the Boca Raton Historical Society & Museum at Town Hall are all among local favorites.

      Golf
Golf is a staple in Boca Raton, and its countless greens are par for the course. Boca Raton’s golf courses and country clubs attract visitors and residents alike all year long. There are 140 courses in Palm Beach County alone- and some of the most beautiful are in Boca Raton. Palm Beach County hosts professional golf events as well. PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens will host the PGA Honda Classic on February 19-25, 2018.   Arnold Palmer Signature Design at St. Andrews set out to make certain the 18-hole course would leave an indelible mark. The course offers stunning vistas, weaves naturally through rolling elevation changes, and presents risk and reward opportunities that keep the game fresh – even for the devoted daily player. As a Palmer Signature Design course, the layout is the culmination of Arnold Palmer’s more than 40 years of building golf courses of distinction.   The Fazio II Course is a recent addition to St. Andrews Country Club. Designed by golf course architect Tom Fazio II, all 18 holes are special and unique creating a challenging, yet fair, quality of play, requiring players to bring their best golf game. While the course may play long at over 7,000 yards, the layout has generous landing areas and open approaches to the greens.

St. Andrews has played host to numerous PGA golf exhibitions led by touring pros such as Phil Mickelson, Arnold Palmer, John Daly and Rocco Mediate, and is the home course to LPGA Touring Professional and resident Morgan Pressel. St. Andrews, along with Aaron Krickstein, Director of Tennis, host a variety of exhibition matches with ATP Tour such as Jimmy Connors, Andy Roddick, Jim Courier, Ivan Lendl and Jimmy Arias.

      FREEDOM TO PLAY

St. Andrews has a no-tee-time policy on its Arnold Palmer Signature Design and Tommy Fazio II courses. Typical playing time is under four hours, and should you choose you can literally roll out of bed and head to the first tee without being held up.

      WORLD-RENOWNED GOLF & TENNIS PROFESSIONALS

The community has a long history of attracting the best of the best.  Bob Toski, PGA Tour champion and a past number one ranked golf instructor in America, joined St. Andrews in 1979 as its first director of golf and is the Pro Emeritus. Long known for his relationship with Golf Digest Schools, Toski quickly set the standard for the club’s golf programming and education.

In 1994, Martin Hall, one of Golf Magazine’s “Top-100 Teachers,” joined St. Andrews Country Club as an instructor while studying under the guidance of Toski. He was later promoted to director of instruction and with his tutelage, Morgan Pressel began her professional golf journey becoming an LPGA superstar.

Martin Hall is currently listed as one of “America’s Best Teachers” by Golf Digest. As a former assistant to Toski, he continues a tradition of innovative instruction.   “Premier golf instruction is a proud tradition of St. Andrews Country Club,” said Craig D. Martin, CCM, COO/GM. “Our Golf Performance Center goes to great lengths to provide the latest teaching tools including an indoor hitting bay, V1 Digital Coaching System, and FlightScope Launch Monitor technologies. You have heard of celebrity chef visits; at St. Andrews we have celebrity instructor outings. Past exhibitions have been led by Phil Mickelson, Rocco Mediate, and the always colorful John Daly.”

Aaron Krickstein, nine-time ATP Tour titlist and youngest player to win an ATP Tour event oversees St. Andrews Country Club’s tennis complex.

“My three older sisters played tennis, so the sport came naturally to me,” recalled Krickstein. “By the time I was 12 years old, I was number one in the country in the 12U division.

Our family moved to Florida for me to face the world’s best and I turned pro at 16.

“Funny how things come full circle,” chuckled Krickstein. “I trained at St. Andrews as a teenager and now I have been director of tennis here for 17 years!”

One week before starting his role at St. Andrews, Aaron had a panic attack and couldn’t get out of bed. “I was frozen in fear,” remembered Krickstein. “I almost quit before I started. I knew how to perform on the court, but a managerial position was out of my wheelhouse. My dad had a stern heart-to-heart talk with me and convinced me I was the man for the job.”   Today, Aaron manages three full-time teaching pros and one of the largest tennis operations in Florida. “Tennis is not an afterthought at St. Andrews. I think my years of competition gave me a different teaching perspective. Similar to how I had to size up opponents, I must evaluate how students are likely to learn best. You quickly discover on the court there are all types of people and personalities. I supervise all aspects of our tennis operations, but I must admit, I still have a fondness for being on the court.”

      WORLD-CLASS GOURMET DINING

Culinary options have been evolutionary instead of revolutionary. St. Andrews has been fortunate to have seasoned culinary teams that have worked in the kitchens for many years providing a menu that’s wholesome and ever-changing. St. Andrews doesn’t provide lip service to nutrition. In the lower level clubhouse terrace, there’s a garden with 15 different herbs that allow chefs the ability to creatively reduce the use of butter and oil without sacrificing taste.

      SPECTACULAR AMENITIES AND SERVICES

Attracting new members who appreciate the highest quality of facilities and service has been the club’s mission from day one. “Our Club Improvement Plan has played a significant role in attracting younger and more diverse members by creating recreation and dining areas that promote spaces for families of all ages to enjoy,” said Martin. “Continuously improving our amenities and offering the best of everything to our membership gives us that “X” Factor to stand apart from other clubs in the area.”

ONE OF AMERICA’S TOP TEN HEALTHIEST CLUBS

For the third year in a row, St. Andrews Country Club has been recognized as one of the top ten healthiest clubs in America by Prevo Health Solutions. This distinction is awarded to a select percentage of private clubs who must excel in specific criteria such as providing healthy menu items to members and staff, accommodating health-related needs and providing an array of activities that leverage the amenities and facility.

      ONCE IN A LIFETIME EXPERIENCES

In addition to superior amenities and service, residents at St. Andrews enjoy once in a lifetime experience such as courtside seats to the Jimmy Connors and Aaron Krickstein Reunion Exhibition held last February. Other exclusive events include the Annual Morgan & Friends Fight Cancer Tournament featuring resident LPGA touring professional, Morgan Pressel and friends. The Annual Camp St. Andrews Color War is another member favorite event where the entire membership, regardless of age, gather together and compete for the championship title. Hence the motto, St Andrews is where neighbors become friends and friends become family.

REAL ESTATE AT ST ANDREWS COUNTRY CLUB

With 727 single-family luxury estate homes in one exclusive neighborhood set over a lushly landscaped 700+ acres, St. Andrews has earned a reputation for excellence with its, “best-of-the-best” security. From the manned and gated entryway to the on-site Medical Response Team, the security services are quietly and inconspicuously ever present. Throughout the community, guard dogs accompany 24-hour, armed foot patrols, while a state-of-the-art, 24-hour, infrared perimeter system alerts the security force of any intrusion onto the grounds.
